LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION

The VGS is committed to integrate ‘Life Skills’ in the school curriculum through curricular and co-curricular activities. The prime focus of an educational system is to prepare children to lead a happy and productive life. Life skills are instrumental in achieving these goals. The term ‘Life Skills’ refers to the skills you need to make the most out of life, or, we can say the skills needed to deal well and effectively with the challenges of life. The school has identified the various aspects of the same and made a list of ‘essential life skills’. The planning team makes a conscious effort to integrate them in the lesson plans and the activity calendar of the school. Here is a list of the identified life skills:

INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION TO EACH STUDENT THROUGH 
STUDENT ADOPTION POLICY

Shaping young, impressionable minds is one of life’s biggest challenges. The school aims to empower its students to grow as individuals with strong open discerning minds with an international perspective, preparing them to make a mark in the global village.
Student Adoption Policy
The teachers are trained in observing learning habit of a child minutely in the classroom. After knowing the root cause of students’ weak academic performance, the school follows the ‘Student Adoption Policy’.
In this process teachers become the school guardians of the students who need remediation and monitor their progress regularly.

  • Supportive and caring learning environment is created

It helps in determination of students’ specific needs through diagnostic tools like class observation, online and paper-based tests etc.and encouraging a student to practise concepts independently instead of offering too much help.

  • Understanding students’ point of view

 To maintain balance in learning process of students, concepts are explained during stay backs in the weekdays or by calling them on Saturdays.

  • Designing of learning material

Special assignments/ worksheets/ question banks are created for students in specific areas. Class teachers maintain close coordination with other subject teachers to monitor the students who require help in specific areas.

  • Record Maintenance

Proper record of remedial classes is maintained, and progress of the child is also closely monitored by the teachers through regular assessments and result analysis.

  • Parental Involvement

Parents are also kept regularly informed about the progress of their wards, by the respective teachers.
‘Student Adoption Policy’ allows student to thrive as they work towards achieving their personal best performance. Teachers are partners in learning with the students and seek to deepen their knowledge, provide enriching and innovative learning experiences.

CORMs & LEARNING REINFORCEMENT CONTENT

The VGS publishes its own in-house learning resources to cater to students’ learning needs with the objective to practice and reinforce the concepts and apply them in varied situations. The material is prepared to simplify the revision and reinforcement of concepts. The framework is such that each chapter has an encapsulated overview that condenses the important points and makes it easier for students to quickly go through the content of the entire chapter.

The concepts are followed by practice questions, which have been carefully incorporated to reinforce and consolidate students’ learning, including questions ranging from easy to high levels of difficulty.

In classes IX- XII the focus is on helping the students prepare well for the CBSE examination, therefore numerous questions from previous years’ examination, application-based questions and value-based questions are included to provide them with ample preparation.

In addition to the Chapter Wise Overview and Practice Questions, the material has all the important information that a student would require throughout the academic session, such as:

  • Design of the question paper
  • Chapter wise weightage of marks
  • Month wise syllabus schedule
  • Exam syllabus schedule

 
The material proves to be an extremely useful resource for the students as well as teachers. It enhances their performance, both inside and outside the classroom, by bringing in values of planning and organization, and helps its users to achieve the optimum level of performance.

ENTREPRENEURS’ CLUB

Entrepreneurship is the ability and readiness to develop, organize and run a business enterprise along with any of its uncertainties to make a profit. This is an important life skill that the school encourages its students to develop, for which various activities are planned throughout the year. The school has created an entrepreneurial culture where students are explicitly encouraged to question, experiment, observe, and network to generate novel ideas where they are not afraid to take chance!
The school, with the aim of inculcating the requisite skills in its young learners, introduced the students of classes XI & XII to Start up - the Ultimate Challenge by the World Youth Council. It is a transformational and hands on business challenge which enables the students to create, build and run their start-ups and become entrepreneurs. The first session of the programme was conducted on August 19, 2019, in which our students received training in a Start Up Master Class. The session equipped them to come up with feasible and lucrative start up ideas. They were taught about design thinking, empathy mappingmind mapping, business model canvas and checklist to successful start-up ideas.
After undergoing the different phases of the program, the team ‘Reflora’ was one of the top three selected teams selected from Delhi and NCR for their bright and exceptional business idea. The Finale Demo was conducted in front of the industry stalwarts, and the students felt extremely encouraged to win Rs 50,000/- for their business plan.

  • Entrepreneurs’ Clubs in VGS

Junior Entrepreneurs’ club :The students of classes VI to VIII engage in various hand crafted items ranging from book marks, lamp shades, folders, gift hampers, quilling earrings, box cards, chocolates, earthen diyas as well as non-fire cooking items.
Senior Entrepreneurs’club : students of classes IX to XII have enrolled in ‘The School Enterprise Challenge’ where they have initiated a business plan which is run by the educational charity –‘Teach a Man to Fish’. Under this program, our students have started a business venture labelled as ‘MY CUP OF TEE’. Under this venture they print, manufacture and sell ‘recycled T-shirts’ i.e. T-shirt made from recycled plastic bottles.
These entrepreneurs’ clubs are completely owned, staffed and managed by the school students with the support of their teachers.

  • How these Entrepreneur Clubs operate?

The interested students collaborate and invest minimalistic amount in their respective clubs. They also come up with various theme-based ideas, logos, paper bags, raw material required for the smooth functioning of their clubs. The students under the guidance of their teachers take up various activities, for example:

  • Visits to recycled units
  • Visits to T-shirt printing factories
  • Poster making
  • T-shirt designing
  • Creating social media awareness through Instagram and Facebook
  • Survey though online forms and questionnaires etc.
  • Promotional strategies

Venkateshewar Global School provides platform to these Entrepreneur clubs to display and sell their products during PTMs, carnivals and annual fairs, etc. These events play a very crucial role in brushing up their marketing skills further. Students prepare ads, posters; organize interesting-games and exciting offers for their target group.  These events also provide opportunity to our students to gain confidence and overcome their inhibitions.

  • Our Achievements

The entrepreneur clubs have brought various positive changes in our students in terms of enhancing their decision-making skills, team spirit, time management, confidence, leadership qualities, problem solving and various other life skills which will surely help them in becoming the future entrepreneurs of our country.
